Meta’s Muse Is Reportedly Growing Faster Than ChatGPT’s Early Mobile Launch

Meta’s Muse was reportedly growing faster than ChatGPT did when it launched mobile in the UK, according to App Tracker Sensor Tower. Meta’s AI helper is off to an early start. Just weeks after its debut, new data suggests that Muse, Meta’s new AI assistant, is raking in more downloads and active users in its first 12 days than ChatGPT did after the first 12 days of launching on mobile. The news hits as Meta attempts to deepen its focus on personal AI agents. Whereas typical AI chatbots answer questions, Muse is built to perform tasks across apps and services and has already made for a strong showing for Meta in the competitive world of consumer AI assistants.

Meta’s Muse Records More Early Downloads Than ChatGPT

As per Apptopia, Muse records 1.8 million downloads in the first twelve days of its launch in Canada and the United States. In comparison, ChatGPT has received approximately 1.3 million downloads in the same markets and time frame after being launched in mobile format. The emphasis of the comparison is only on the iOS downloads in the two countries, which allows the launches to be comparable since it was an iOS start for Muse but, for ChatGPT, an international debut across various platforms.

ChatGPT was first made available in all countries on iOS, while Muse was launched only in the U.S. and Canada on both platforms, iOS and Android. According to Apptopia, Muse has been installed over 2.8 million times during its first twelve days globally, while it has moved to the top of the U.S. App Store within that time period.

Meta’s Muse Also Shows Higher Daily Activity

Downloads are not the only area where Muse shows strong early numbers. Apptopia estimates that Muse has more daily active users in the U.S. than ChatGPT has at the same point after its launch. Muse records about 642,000 daily active U.S. mobile users, compared with 231,000 for ChatGPT during the corresponding period. Even when Apptopia looks only at iOS users, Muse reaches around 359,000 daily active users.

These figures show that Muse is attracting users who continue to open and use the app after downloading it. However, the numbers remain estimates rather than official user statistics. Meta has not publicly released its own download or daily active user figures for Muse. Apptopia also does not have access to Meta’s internal data, so the comparison provides an estimated view of early adoption rather than a complete measurement.

Why Muse’s Launch Strategy Matters

Muse enters the market with a different distribution strategy from ChatGPT’s early mobile launch. It is available through iOS, Android, the web, and WhatsApp, giving users several ways to access the assistant. Meta also plans to bring Muse to its AI glasses.

The app is closely connected to Meta’s existing ecosystem. More than 95% of Muse users in Apptopia’s data also use Facebook, while 63% use Instagram. This existing user base gives Meta several channels for promoting the app and introducing it to people who already use its services.

Meta uses a similar cross-platform approach with its other products. Instagram, Facebook, and WhatsApp can help put Muse in front of a large number of existing users without requiring the company to build awareness entirely from scratch. Meta’s broader AI efforts also include Meta’s Muse Code, an AI coding agent designed for software development.

Muse Focuses on AI That Takes Action

Muse also enters the market with a different product concept. Meta presents it as a personal AI agent that can perform tasks instead of only responding to questions. Muse can connect with services such as email, calendars, payments, shopping, dining, travel, and other everyday applications. It can send emails, fill out forms, make plans, book travel, and help with purchases.

The assistant runs on Meta’s Muse Spark model and uses a dedicated virtual machine called Muse Secure VM. Meta says the system is designed to separate the agent from sensitive information and asks users for approval before certain actions, such as sending emails or making purchases.

This approach places Muse within the broader shift from conversational AI toward agentic AI. Instead of simply giving users information, these systems aim to complete parts of a task on their behalf.

Early Growth Comes With Open Questions

Muse’s early numbers are notable, but they do not provide a complete picture of long-term adoption. The comparison covers only the first 12 days and relies on third-party estimates. The different launch conditions also matter. ChatGPT launches globally on iOS, while Muse has broader platform availability but a more limited initial geographic rollout. Apptopia adjusts its comparison by using U.S. and Canadian iOS data, but the two launches still take place under different market conditions. Muse also faces questions around privacy and user trust because the assistant can connect to personal services and handle tasks involving sensitive information. Meta says users control which services Muse can access and can disconnect them at any time.

What Muse’s Growth Means for Consumer AI

Muse’s early adoption shows how quickly consumer interest can build around AI assistants that perform practical tasks. Its growth also adds another major competitor to a market that already includes ChatGPT and other AI assistants. For Meta, the focus now moves beyond downloads. Continued daily use, user retention, expansion to more services, and the ability to complete tasks reliably will provide more information about Muse’s long-term position.

For now, estimates show that Muse has a faster start than ChatGPT’s early mobile launch under the comparable U.S. and Canadian iOS measurement. Whether that early momentum continues depends on how users adopt the assistant beyond its first few weeks.
